THIS 40-HOUR, TCLEOSE CERTIFIED COURSE IS BEING OFFERED FOR POLICE OFFICERS, CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS, AND OTHERS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE FIELD WHO ARE IN NEED OF A BASIC COURSE IN HOSTAGE NEGOTIATIONS.

Topics to be covered include:
   Definitions, characteristics, and stages of hostage/barricaded incidents
    Communication Skills
    Active listening
    Team structure, roles and command issues
    Demands and the effects of time
    Intelligence gathering
    Stress and the Stockholm Syndrome
    Personality types of hostage takers
    Suicide and depression
    Debriefing issues, operational and emotional
    Equipment, media, and legal issues

 Course participants will be involved in several role play incidents so they can practice the material taught in class.
 
ALL COURSE INSTRUCTORS WILL BE EXPERIENCED AND TRAINED HOSTAGE NEGOTIATORS TO INCLUDE NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED DR. WAYMAN MULLINS, CO-AUTHOR OF "CRISIS NEGOTIATIONS: MANAGING CRITICAL INCIDENTS AND HOSTAGE SITUATIONS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CORRECTS".

"Negotiations for First Responders"

 The Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators and
 the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office 

This course is designed to assist First Responders when dealing with critical calls involving barricaded subjects, suicidal persons and hostage taking type situations. 
 

Topics will include:
Understanding and defining hostage versus non-hostage incidents
Understanding suicide and dealing with suicidal persons
Active Listening Skills and how they are used to communicate during critical incidents
Transitioning to SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team during critical incidents

Cost:
Free for TAHN Members
$40 for non-members
Class is limited to 30 attendees 

*Restricted to current Municipal, State and Federal Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers
