Senior Police Officer Thad Sarton began his police career with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in 1993. In 1994, he joined the Houston Police Department and worked several years in patrol and received numerous commendations while working undercover with the Northeast Divisional Tactical Unit. In 2002, Thad joined HPD’s Hostage Negotiation Team as one of 4 full-time negotiators that respond to all calls involving suicides in progress and barricaded suspects. When not responding to special-threat situations, he is involved in training negotiators from the Houston Police Department and surrounding communities.
Thad is working towards his master’s degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management. He currently holds a TCLEOSE Master Peace Officer’s Certificate, a TCLEOSE Mental Health Peace Officer Certificate, and a TCLEOSE Instructor’s Certification.
