Officer David Garcia Ft. Worth Police Department david.garcia@fortworthgov.org
I am Officer David C. Garcia and I am an 18-year veteran with the Fort Worth Police Department. I was born and raised in Fort Worth, and after graduation from high school, I served 10 years in the U.S. Navy. I chose to return home after being Honorably discharged to begin my career in law enforcement.
During my career with the Fort Worth Police Department, my first assignment was patrol on the west side of Fort Worth, midnight shift. Later assigned to the Como neighborhood district, which at that time was experiencing a high crime rate. During this assignment I became very interested in the narcotics area of police work. I applied, interviewed and was selected to work in the narcotics division. In 1998 while assigned to the narcotics complaint team I was awarded the Certificate of Merit Award for the seizure of over $1,000,000 in narcotics and currency. I also served on the DFW Airport DEA Task Force performing interdiction on air travelers and freight. During my time working as a Task Force Officer at DFW Airport, I intercepted a 20-kilogram shipment of Heroin from Columbia bound for New York and Chicago. The case’ final outcome produced many arrest one of which was a major Columbian drug trafficker who was responsible for shipments to the east coast of the United States.
I later chose to work in the k-9 Section of my department. I enjoyed the tracking of individuals, and searching of buildings to find burglars. This assignment demanded constant training for both the handler and k-9.
During my assignment to the training academy I first served as a background investigator performing interviews and investigations of police applicants. I also assist in the facilitation of oral review boards for police trainees and police cadet positions. Later I was offered and selected to become the police recruiter for my department. I have served on planning committees for the police department budget and improvement plans.
I am licensed by TCLEOSE as a Master Peace Officer and Police Instructor. I teach such classes as Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), Officer Survival and Diversity Training.
I have served as a hostage negotiator for over 13 years. Since being assigned to my current recruiter position at the training academy, this has given me the opportunity to create, schedule and perform training for our hostage negotiation team. I have also assisted neighboring cities with their hostage negotiator training.
